Over 421,000 individuals are living with dementia in Australia. It stands as the leading cause of death among women and ranks as the second leading cause of death overall. Despite the lack of a known cure, there are treatments available that can alleviate many of the symptoms.
Many people diagnosed with dementia continue to lead active and fulfilling lives for several years.
In Hervey Bay, the impact of dementia is significant, affecting numerous lives, including those at Torbay Lifestyles & Care. The management at Torbay is dedicated to supporting this event to honor their residents living with dementia and to raise essential funds for this crucial cause.
Chief Executive Officer for Torbay Lifestyles & Care, Carrie Chappell, says this is important for their organisation that impacts many of their 250+ residents and families.
“The cause is very close to the heart of our team of over 200 staff who witness the toll dementia plays on the families and carers of our loved residents impacted by the disease.”
“Torbay Lifestyles & Care are committed to providing comprehensive support to their residents with dementia. By participating in events such as MyWay we want to play a crucial role within this community to raise awareness on Dementia and also in supporting our patients and their families.”
Across Australia, 1.5 million people are involved in care of friends and family suffering with dementia. In regions like Hervey Bay, the impact of dementia is deeply felt.
