TORBAY POETS
Torbay has had its share of Poets too.
Jack (I’m no gentleman) Chorley was an ‘Old English salt’ who could rattle off a poem at the drop of a hat or anything else. We have reproduced two of his works out of the hundreds that he produced while in care at Torbay. Each poem was distributed throughout Torbay-Torquay and bought an instant smile to the face of the reader. Jack’s set sail on his final voyage in 2002 to meet his maker. We, who were left behind, are all the richer for having him dock with us for his final years.
Trudy Milne was another poet who gave us pleasure with her works. We have reproduced the poem that she gave to Neville Searle to publish in his book. Trudy was blind but that never stopped her. She knew exactly what was happening around her and despite failing health always had a word of encouragement to everyone. Trudy passed away at Torbay Aged Care and Retirement Village Torquay in 1995
